BJP Says Bengaluru Law Changes Threaten Parks, Lakes, Planning

BJP MP Tejasvi Surya says new changes to three Karnataka laws could harm Bengaluru’s parks and lakes.

He says the changes are connected to plans for short and long tunnel roads.

One change would allow some park land to be diverted or sold.

Another would make the protected space around lakes much smaller.

Surya says Bengaluru has lost many lakes because of encroachments.

He warns that this could reduce underground water supplies used by the city.

He also says the city’s transport plans should be checked by a special planning authority.

The Karnataka government has promised to review the park-law change, while Surya wants the other amendments withdrawn too.
