El-Sayed Wins Michigan Senate Primary, Could Become First Muslim Senator
Abdul El-Sayed is a man who wants to become a senator, a person who helps make laws for the whole United States.
He lives in Michigan, and his parents came to America from Egypt.
Abdul used to work in public health, helping people stay healthy.
He just won a special vote called a primary election in Michigan.
Winning the primary means he is now the Democratic Party's choice for the job.
He beat another candidate named Haley Stevens by only a little bit.
Now Abdul will compete against Mike Rogers, a Republican supported by Donald Trump.
If Abdul wins the big election, he would be the first Muslim senator in American history.
After his win, Abdul said, 'Tomorrow we begin to mend fences,' which means he wants to bring people together.
Abdul El-Sayed, a progressive political outsider and former public health official, won the Democratic U.S. Senate primary in Michigan.
The 41-year-old son of Egyptian immigrants would become the first Muslim U.S. senator if elected.
