US Sanctions Four Indian Firms Over $119M Iranian Oil

The United States placed sanctions on four Indian companies and three people.

Sanctions are punishments that can make it harder for people and businesses to trade internationally.

The US says the companies handled about $119 million in Iranian oil and petrochemical products.

One company was linked to about $69 million in imports, while two others were each linked to nearly $25 million.

A customs broker was also accused of helping move some shipments.

Iran said the sanctions broke international law and promised to resist them.

Some analysts said the measures were less severe than traders expected.

That helped calm oil markets, although analysts warned prices could rise again if Iran retaliates.
