Panvel Voter Roll Tops Four Lakh After Special Revision
Election officials are checking the voter list in Panvel.
The updated list currently has 4,00,704 names.
Many names were removed during the checking, and about 12,000 people have already applied to join the list again.
Officials expect more people to apply.
Booth-level officers are visiting homes to check details and collect documents.
People can also send documents through WhatsApp or register online.
Officials say anyone whose name may be removed will be informed and given a chance to respond.
The checking is expected to continue until November 12.
Panvel’s revised electoral roll retains 4,00,704 voters, up from around 1.60 lakh in 2002.
Nearly 1.5 lakh names were removed from the earlier roll, which had around 6.84 lakh registered voters.
About 12,000 people whose names were excluded have reapplied using Form 6; officials expect another 50,000 to 80,000 applications.
The revision covers 574 polling stations, with booth-level officers checking voter details and collecting documents through November 12.
Officials say voters facing proposed deletion will receive notice and an opportunity to respond before a final decision.
