India Considers Shifting EV Incentive Funds to Next Budget
The Indian government had set aside money to help people buy electric trucks and buses.
However, the companies that make these electric vehicles are having trouble getting the parts they need made locally, and a big order for electric buses has been delayed.
Because of these problems, the government hasn't been able to give out any of the promised money yet.
Now, one of the government ministries wants to move the money that was supposed to be used this year to next year's budget.
This is because they think most of the payments will happen in the future, and it gives the companies more time to figure out the rules for making parts in India.
The government has also decided to give companies two more years to meet these rules.
The Ministry of Heavy Industries has requested shifting ₹4,891 crore meant for e-truck and e-bus purchase incentives to the next budget.
No incentives have been disbursed yet for electric trucks and buses under the PM E-Drive scheme.
The incentive scheme for e-trucks and e-buses has been extended by two years, now ending in FY28.
Manufacturers face challenges in meeting component localization norms and delays in e-bus tenders, hindering incentive disbursals.
The government relaxed some localization rules for traction motors but is still awaiting government testing agency approval for any e-truck or e-bus models.

Reason for Fund Shift
Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI)
The MHI has requested shifting the allocation of ₹4,891 crore for e-trucks and e-buses to the next budget because most disbursals are expected in FY27, and budget consultations have already occurred.

Manufacturers face challenges meeting component localization norms and delays in tenders, leading to no disbursals so far. The extension of the incentive scheme by two years till FY28 suggests a need for more time to implement these incentives.

The incentive scheme for e-trucks and e-buses has been extended by two years to FY28 due to lack of disbursals. Localization approvals for truck components are pending, and a major e-bus tender is delayed, indicating ongoing implementation hurdles.
