Pune Bakeries Warned: Switch to Green Fuel in 10 Days or Face Action
Imagine Pune has a lot of dirty air because of pollution.
Many bakeries are making bread and cakes using wood and coal, which makes a lot of smoke and adds to the pollution.
The city's government told the bakery owners they must stop using wood and coal and start using cleaner energy, like gas or electricity, within ten days.
Some bakeries are already doing this, but others haven't yet.
If they don't switch, they could get in trouble.
The government is also trying to control pollution from the many cars and trucks on the roads, which is another big reason for the dirty air in Pune.
Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has given bakery owners 10 days to switch from wood and coal to green fuels.
Action will be taken against bakeries that do not comply with the directive to reduce air pollution.
The Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) has issued guidelines for local bodies to promote green fuel in establishments like bakeries.
Over one thousand bakeries in Pune and its suburbs still extensively use wood and coal, contributing significantly to smoke and air pollution.
While some bakeries are transitioning to green fuels such as LPG, PNG, and electricity, others are reportedly ignoring the mandate.
