27 Bison Translocated to Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve
On January 22-26, 2026, wildlife officials moved 27 bison from Satpura Tiger Reserve to Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve in Madhya Pradesh, India.
This was the second phase of a project to help the bison population in Bandhavgarh.
The bison, which include 5 males and 22 females, were moved to make the bison in Bandhavgarh stronger and more diverse.
The journey was 593 kilometers long, and many officials and doctors helped to make sure the bison were healthy before, during, and after the move.
Bandhavgarh used to have no bison, but since 2010, they have been bringing them back.
Now, there are about 190 bison in Bandhavgarh.
27 bison (5 males, 22 females) were translocated from Satpura to Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve in Madhya Pradesh.
The translocation was completed over four days, from January 22 to January 26, 2026.
The project aims to improve the genetic diversity and strengthen the bison population in Bandhavgarh.
Over 210 officials and wildlife doctors were involved in the translocation process.
Bandhavgarh's bison population has grown to around 190 since the species was reintroduced in 2010.
