UP Tightens Marriage Registration with New Rules
The government in Uttar Pradesh is changing how marriages are officially recorded to stop fake ones.
Now, when you get married, you need to show a video of the ceremony, and the priest has to give a signed statement.
Also, at least one person in the couple must live in the district where they apply.
This is to make sure that only real marriages get recorded, and prevent people from using fake documents.
These new rules are in response to a court order that found issues with how marriages were registered before.
Uttar Pradesh implements stricter marriage registration rules.
The new directives follow an Allahabad High Court order.
Mandatory video evidence of ceremonies is required.
Priests must submit notarized affidavits.
Marriage applications require proof of residency in the district.
