Kerala Approves Rs 5,000 Crore Cochin Shipyard Project in Kochi
The Kerala government has decided to help a big ship-making company called Cochin Shipyard build a new factory.
The factory will be built on 18 acres of land in the city of Kochi, India.
Cochin Shipyard will rent the land and pay the government every year.
The whole project will cost about 5,000 crore rupees, which is a very large amount of money.
It is expected to create nearly 2,000 new jobs for workers.
This will help Kochi become an even bigger hub for building ships.
Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan announced the news after a government meeting.
He also said the government will not give in to pressure from caste or religious groups.
Officials are also checking why a tax payment related to footballer Lionel Messi's event was put on hold.
The Kerala government approved leasing 18 acres in Kochi to Central PSU Cochin Shipyard Ltd for ship-block construction.
The project involves an investment of around Rs 5,000 crore and is expected to create nearly 2,000 new jobs.
The state will receive an annual lease amount of Rs 1.45 crore, about Rs 1.70 crore including GST.
