Supreme Court Petition Challenges School Access Curbs on Journalists

Supreme Court Petition Challenges School Access Curbs on Journalists

A petition has been filed in India’s Supreme Court about rules limiting visits to government schools.

The rules apply to journalists, YouTubers, social-media users, civil-society groups and other members of the public.

They require permission before entering some schools.

They also restrict taking photos, recording videos, conducting interviews and livestreaming.

The petitioner says people should be able to check whether schools have proper buildings, toilets, water and electricity.

The petition says children’s privacy and safety should still be protected.

It suggests not recording identifiable children or confidential records.

It also proposes limiting access during classes and hiding children’s faces and personal information.

The Supreme Court bench said it would list the case.
