India Issues Over 74 Million Digital IDs to Farmers
Imagine every farmer in India getting a special digital ID card, like a library card but for farming.
This card is connected to their land and helps them easily get things like loans and insurance.
The government is giving these IDs to millions of farmers to make it simpler for them to get help from different government programs.
Three states, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, are the latest to start giving out these cards.
Many other states have already given out over 74 million cards.
The goal is to give out 90 million by 2026.
This is part of a bigger plan to use technology to help farmers, teach them better farming ways through online classes, and improve how we track crops and land.
Over 74 million multipurpose digital IDs (Kisan Pehchaan Patra) have been issued to farmers across 16 states.
Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand have recently joined the scheme to provide unique farmer IDs linked to land records.
The government aims to issue 90 million such IDs by the end of the fiscal year 2026.
The digital IDs are part of a digital agriculture mission to streamline access to government schemes and benefits.
A new digital platform, VISTAAR, will be launched to provide farmers access to virtual classrooms for agricultural best practices, credit, insurance, and digital marketplaces.
