Telangana High Court Questions Power Supply to GITAM
A big school called GITAM in Hyderabad owes a lot of money for electricity, about Rs 118 crore.
The electricity company wanted to cut off their power, but the school said that's not fair.
The court is upset because the electricity company cuts power for small amounts owed by regular people but not for big amounts owed by big schools.
The court wants the electricity company to explain why they are treating the school differently and has asked them to come to court on December 22.
GITAM owes Rs 118.13 crore in electricity dues from 2008-2025.
The Telangana High Court summoned the superintending engineer of TGSPDCL to explain the continued power supply to GITAM.
GITAM challenged the demand notice, alleging it violates regulations and the Electricity Act, 2003.
The court noted the differential treatment in power disconnections between large institutions and ordinary consumers.
The hearing is scheduled for December 22, 2025.
