High School Timings Extended by Half Hour on Weekdays
Starting next school year, high school students will have to stay in class for an extra 30 minutes each day, except on Fridays.
This is because the government wants to make sure students get enough time in class to learn, as required by law.
The decision was made in a meeting.
There will be fewer Saturdays as school days now.
The school will decide if the extra time will be in the morning or afternoon.
High school class timings will be extended by half an hour on working days, excluding Fridays.
The decision was made at a meeting of the Quality Improvement Programme (QIP) monitoring committee.
The extension aims to achieve 1,200 instructional hours per year for high school classes, as per the Right to Education Act.
There will be 204 working days for high school classes, including six Saturdays.
The department will decide whether to implement the time increase in the morning or afternoon.
