Doctors Save 2-Year-Old Girl with Rare Chest Tumor
Doctors in Mumbai successfully treated a 2-year-old girl who had a rare and serious chest tumor.
The tumor was pressing on her airway, making it hard for her to breathe.
The doctors used special scans to see the tumor and then performed a complex surgery to remove it.
They had to be very careful because the tumor was near important parts of her body.
The surgery was a success, and the little girl is now doing well.
The doctors said that treating such young children with tumors is very challenging, but their teamwork and quick decisions helped save the girl's life.
A 2-year-old girl was successfully treated for a rare chest tumor compressing her airway at Narayana Health SRCC Children’s Hospital in Mumbai.
The tumor caused neck swelling, noisy breathing, and voice changes, worsening during infections and while lying down.
Advanced imaging revealed a complex anterior mediastinal mass arising from the thymic region, compressing and displacing the trachea.
A multidisciplinary team performed a median sternotomy to safely excise the tumor, which was confirmed to be benign.
The child made a smooth recovery and was discharged in stable condition.
