The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has given Rs 6.2 crore for a 3-year study to find out why many people in Uddanam, Srikakulam district, have kidney problems.
They will test 5,500 people's blood and urine, and check if they have genes that make them more likely to get sick.
They'll also look for things in the environment that might be causing the problem.
