Western Railway Expands Capacity by 2030
Western Railway has a big plan to handle almost twice as many trains by 2030.
They want to do this in six big cities, including Mumbai.
They will build new train lines, upgrade old ones, and add more trains.
This will help more people travel and make trains run on time.
Some of the work will be done by January 2026, and the rest will continue until 2030.
They are spending a lot of money to make sure trains are comfortable and there are fewer delays.
In Punjab, new rail links and station redevelopments are being planned to make travel easier and faster.
This includes projects like the Gurdaspur–Mukerian rail link and the Rajpura–Mohali rail line.
These projects will help people and goods move more easily around the region.
Western Railway plans to double train handling capacity by 2030 in Mumbai and five other cities.
The expansion includes terminal upgrades, signaling improvements, and new train lines, with key projects like the Mumbai Central–Borivali 6th line.
The plan aims to add 65 long-distance trains and 165 suburban services, with a total cost of Rs 6,857 crore for the Mumbai Central–Dahanu Road section.
In Punjab, new rail links such as the Gurdaspur–Mukerian and Rajpura–Mohali lines are being developed to enhance regional connectivity.
Significant funding has been allocated for Punjab projects, with increased outlays for infrastructure and safety works.
