Anit Thapa Refuses to Meet Interlocutor
Anit Thapa, who leads a political group in Darjeeling, does not want to talk to a person sent by the central government.
He thinks this is a trick by the BJP party before an election.
Thapa wants the central government to officially create a new state called Gorkhaland instead of sending someone to talk.
He says that sending a person to talk is not enough and that the BJP should introduce a bill in Parliament if they really want to give statehood.
Most other political parties in the area also want either statehood or a special territory status for Darjeeling.
The person sent by the government says he will still try to talk to everyone and suggest ways to improve the lives of the people in the region and protect their culture.
Anit Thapa, leader of BGPM, refuses to meet Centre-appointed interlocutor Pankaj Kumar Singh.
Thapa accuses BJP of sending interlocutor for political gains ahead of elections.
BGPM controls Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) and demands statehood for Darjeeling.
Thapa's party is an ally of Trinamool Congress, which also opposes the interlocutor's appointment.
Interlocutor Singh aims to address socio-economic and cultural aspirations within the constitutional framework.
