Yankees sign Paul DeJong to minor league deal
The New York Yankees have signed Paul DeJong, a 32-year-old shortstop, to a minor league deal.
This means he will have a chance to play for the team in Spring Training and possibly earn a spot on the big league roster.
DeJong has played for several teams in the past, including the St. Louis Cardinals, Toronto Blue Jays, San Francisco Giants, Chicago White Sox, and Washington Nationals.
He had a good year in 2024 but struggled in 2025 after getting hurt.
The Yankees are hoping he can help fill in while their regular shortstop, Anthony Volpe, recovers from an injury.
DeJong can also play other infield positions, which makes him a versatile addition to the team.
The New York Yankees signed Paul DeJong to a minor league contract with an invitation to big league Spring Training.
DeJong, 32, provides infield depth and insurance while Anthony Volpe recovers from left shoulder labrum surgery.
He can play shortstop, third base, and second base, offering versatility to the Yankees' infield.
DeJong's career includes stints with the Cardinals, Blue Jays, Giants, White Sox, and Nationals, with notable success early on and recent struggles.
In 2024, he hit 24 home runs with a 96 wRC+, but 2025 was challenging due to a facial fracture and subsequent poor performance.
