Centre Curbs Ladakh's Financial Powers
The central government in India has taken away some financial powers from the leaders in Ladakh.
Before, the local leaders could approve projects worth up to 100 crore rupees.
Now, the central government in New Delhi will make these decisions.
People in Ladakh are upset because they think this will slow down development and ignore their local needs.
They also feel that this is part of a bigger trend where the central government is taking more control over Ladakh.
Some leaders in Ladakh have been asking for more autonomy and special rights, but these talks have not led to any big changes yet.
The Union Ministry of Home Affairs has taken away financial decision-making powers from Ladakh's Lieutenant Governor and administration officials.
Approval for projects up to Rs 100 crore now requires central government approval, not local authorities.
Local bureaucrats and hill councils have also lost their powers to sanction projects.
The decision is seen as an attempt by New Delhi to tighten control over Ladakh, amid growing demands for autonomy in the region.
Ladakh leaders argue that this will slow down development and ignore local needs, as decisions will now be made in New Delhi.
