Govt appoints IPS officer Anand Swaroop as Special Secretary at MHA
The Indian government has appointed Anand Swaroop, a senior police officer, to a new important job.
He will be the Special Secretary for Internal Security.
This means he will help keep the country safe.
He is currently working at the National Human Rights Commission.
The government also decided that another officer, Anupama Nilekar Chandra, will take his place there.
Both officers have been working for a long time and are very experienced.
Anand Swaroop will stay in his new job until he retires in 2029, unless the government says otherwise.
Anand Swaroop, a 1992-batch IPS officer from the Uttar Pradesh cadre, has been appointed as Special Secretary (Internal Security) at the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
Swaroop is currently serving as DG(I) at the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and will replace Praveen Vashista in his new role.
His tenure will be from the date of assumption of charge till August 31, 2029, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved the appointment.
Anupama Nilekar Chandra, a 1994-batch IPS officer, will replace Swaroop as Director General (Investigation) at the NHRC.
