Karnataka HC Bans Immediate Land Record Changes
The Karnataka High Court said it's not right for local officials called tahsildars to change land ownership records right after a decision is made to give the land back to its original owners.
The court said they should wait until the time for appeals is over.
A judge named Justice R Devdas made this rule because he noticed tahsildars were changing the records too quickly, which is against the law.
The court told the state's revenue department to send a message to all tahsildars to follow this new rule.
Karnataka High Court ruled that changing land records immediately after an assistant commissioner's order is illegal.
Justice R Devdas noted that tahsildars were changing revenue entries before the appeal period ended.
The court directed the state revenue department to issue a circular to stop this practice.
The issue involves the Karnataka Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prohibition of Transfer of Certain Lands) Act.
The order was passed on January 19.
