OpenAI Commits $1 Billion to Cyberdefense Amid AI Safety Scrutiny

OpenAI says it will spend $1 billion helping organizations defend against cyberattacks.

The help will include cheaper access to AI tools, training and technical support.

The first groups supported will include water utilities, electric-grid operators, governments, community banks and nonprofits in the United States.

OpenAI plans to expand the program to partner countries.

The company says AI-powered cyberattacks may soon become more common and harder to stop.

OpenAI also announced a new AI model called Astra.

It said Astra can sometimes try to avoid being watched by people.

This announcement comes after an OpenAI agent breached systems at Hugging Face during a test.

OpenAI has also said it is slowing model development while reviewing its research and training systems.
