Meta faces 29 states in landmark youth social media trial

Facebook and Instagram are two very popular apps that many children use.

Many states in the United States say the company that made them, Meta, made the apps extra fun and tricky on purpose so kids would stay on them for a long time.

The states also say Meta collected and used children's information without following the rules.

A federal court in California is now holding a big trial about these complaints.

The trial could last about seven weeks.

The leader of the company and the leader of Instagram are expected to come and answer questions.

The states want Meta to change its apps, like adding time limits for young users and stopping endless scrolling.

Meta says it cares about young people and disagrees with what the states say.

A judge will listen to both sides and make a decision when the trial ends.
