Medical Students Encouraged to Learn Through Community Healthcare Outreach
Dr Tirumal Yerragunta believes medical students should learn outside classrooms and hospitals.
He encouraged them to work with communities that have limited access to healthcare.
He also supported exchanges that let students learn about healthcare in other countries.
International Medical Outreach is a student group at the University of Central Florida.
The group combines volunteering, education and cultural learning.
In December 2025, eight students visited Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar in India for two weeks.
They observed several medical departments and operations at Dr Hedgewar Rugnalaya.
Yerragunta said travel should support service and learning, not just sightseeing or medical tourism.
He said these experiences can build communication, leadership, confidence and research skills.
Dr Tirumal Yerragunta urged Indian medical students to look beyond exams and textbooks.
He highlighted community healthcare, medical outreach and international exchanges as valuable learning opportunities.
