India aims to democratize AI infrastructure access
The Principal Scientific Adviser to the Indian government released a report saying that AI is very important for innovation and economic growth.
Right now, most AI resources like computers and data are controlled by a few big companies and cities, which isn't fair.
India has a lot of data but not enough places to store and process it.
The report suggests making these resources more affordable and available to everyone, including small companies and researchers.
This will help more people use AI in different fields like agriculture, education, and healthcare.
The government is also investing a lot of money to build better AI infrastructure in India.
India hosts 20% of the world’s data but only 3% of global data centre capacity.
Demand for data infrastructure in India is expected to grow from 960 MW to 9.2 GW by 2030.
Mumbai and Navi Mumbai are the largest hubs for data centres in India, accounting for over 25% of live capacity.
The IndiaAI Mission is constructing a secure GPU cluster with 3,000 next-generation GPUs for sovereign applications.
The government is investing ₹76,000 crore in the India Semiconductor Mission to support advanced chip-making projects.
