Supreme Court Rejects Byju's Plea in BCCI Case
The Supreme Court of India recently decided not to interfere with a lower court's order that said Byju Raveendran, the founder of Byju's, needs to get approval from a group of creditors before settling a debt with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
The BCCI had started legal action because Byju's owed them money for a sponsorship deal.
Byju's had already paid the money, but the courts said the process still needs to follow the usual rules.
The Supreme Court agreed with this and told Byju's to continue with the legal process as required.
This means that even though the money has been paid, the formal process with the creditors must still be completed.
Supreme Court dismissed Byju Raveendran's plea challenging NCLAT's order on BCCI's insolvency claim.
NCLAT ruled that the settlement proposal must be evaluated by the Committee of Creditors (CoC).
Supreme Court noted it had previously rejected similar appeals by both BCCI and Byju's co-founder Riju Raveendran.
Byju's argued that the BCCI's claim had been fully paid, but the court rejected this argument.
The insolvency case stems from unpaid sponsorship dues owed to the BCCI by Think & Learn.
