ED raids 12 locations in FCRA probe
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) in India raided several places connected to a trust called Jamia Ismalia Ishatul Uloom (JIIU) in Maharashtra.
They did this because they think the trust might have broken some rules about receiving money from foreign countries.
The trust's permission to get foreign money was already canceled by the government.
A BJP leader, Kirit Somaiya, said that the raids were necessary because of big financial problems.
The ED is still looking into the matter, and we don't know the results yet.
They are also looking at a shell company called Metrozi Trading Pvt Ltd and its director, Rehan Memon, who is associated with the trust.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) raided 12 locations in Maharashtra, including Mumbai and Nandurbar district, as part of an investigation into alleged FCRA violations by the Jamia Ismalia Ishatul Uloom (JIIU) trust.
The investigation is based on an FIR and a charge sheet filed by the Akkalkuwa Police Station, with the case gaining momentum after the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) canceled the trust’s FCRA registration on July 15, 2024.
The ED is focusing on tracing the financial trail and identifying the alleged proceeds of crime linked to the trust's activities and a shell company, Metrozi Trading Pvt Ltd.
A Yemeni citizen, Al-Khadami Khaled Ibrahim Saleh, and Rehan Memon, Director of Metrozi Trading Pvt Ltd, were named in the case along with others associated with the trust.
BJP leader Kirit Somaiya reacted to the raids, alleging large financial irregularities and describing the institution as 'Maharashtra’s Al Falah.'
