Congress Divided Over Joining Omar Abdullah Government

Omar Abdullah leads the government of Jammu and Kashmir.

His National Conference party has asked Congress to join the government.

Some Congress leaders are still discussing whether to accept the offer.

Other Congress leaders say the party will not join until Jammu and Kashmir becomes a state again.

Congress also wants more influence if it enters the government.

The two parties have argued about cabinet places and Rajya Sabha seat-sharing.

Congress says it was promised a winnable Rajya Sabha seat but was given one it could not win.

The National Conference and Congress still have enough Assembly members to form a majority together.

Their alliance therefore continues, but the parties disagree about how they should work together in government.
