Foreign Guest Reporting Rules Bring Fines for Accommodation Providers
People who provide a place for foreign visitors to stay must report their details online.
They must do this within 24 hours of the visitors arriving or leaving.
This rule applies to hotels, homestays, Airbnb hosts and private homeowners.
It also covers schools, hostels, religious groups and medical facilities.
The form used for reporting is called Form-III.
The rule also applies to OCI cardholders and citizens of Nepal and Bhutan.
Providers who do not follow the rule can receive large fines.
Authorities say the reporting helps meet legal and national-security requirements.
Accommodation providers must register foreign guests’ arrival and departure details online within 24 hours.
The requirement applies to hotels, homestays, Airbnb hosts, homeowners, hostels and institutions.
Reporting must be completed through Form-III, formerly known as Form-C.
Individual and commercial providers may face fines starting at Rs 50,000 per violation.
Educational and medical institutions may face fines of at least Rs 1 lakh and criminal proceedings.
