Gaushalas and IKS Transforming India's Education

Gaushalas and IKS Transforming India's Education

In many parts of India, schools and communities are setting up gaushalas, which are places where cows are taken care of.

These gaushalas are not just about religion; they are used as living classrooms where students learn about farming, sustainability, and how to take care of animals.

This is part of a bigger idea called the Indian Knowledge System (IKS), which includes traditional Indian knowledge about science, farming, and culture.

The government's National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 supports this by including IKS in school lessons.

States like Gujarat have many gaushalas, and some schools even teach special courses about cows and farming.

There are also places like Udhbhavaha in Karnataka, where children learn academics along with farming, arts, and community living.

The goal is to create a more self-reliant and sustainable India by connecting education with traditional knowledge and practices.
