STA Orders Road Cleaning to Prevent Accidents
The Odisha State Transport Authority (STA) has told all road-owning agencies, like the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), to keep roads clean.
They want to remove sand, soil, and construction debris that can cause accidents.
This comes after two women, including a journalist, died in a skidding accident on the Puri-Bhubaneswar highway.
The STA says that dirty roads can make vehicles skid, especially two-wheelers, leading to serious accidents.
They have asked agencies to use machines to clean the roads more often, especially in dangerous areas.
If they don't do this, the STA will hold the officers responsible.
STA directed road-owning agencies to clean roads and remove sand and debris to prevent accidents.
Directive issued after two women, including a journalist, died in a skidding accident on Puri-Bhubaneswar highway.
Spillage of sand, soil, and construction debris on roads causes skidding, leading to fatal accidents.
STA chairman Amitabh Thakur emphasized the statutory duty of agencies to maintain clean and safe roads.
Agencies advised to use mechanical sweeping machines and increase cleaning frequency in high-risk areas.
