Supreme Court Collegium Recommends Chief Justices for Four High Courts

India has big courts called high courts in different parts of the country.

Each one has a leader called the Chief Justice.

A group of senior judges, called the collegium, helps choose these leaders.

The leader of this group is the Chief Justice of India, Surya Kant.

On August 6, the group met and chose four judges to become new Chief Justices.

One judge will move from Delhi's high court to lead Patna's high court.

Another will go from Bombay to lead the high court in Calcutta.

The group also said two more judges should transfer to new high courts in Gujarat and Chhattisgarh.

These picks are recommendations, which are part of how judges get new roles in India.
