Global Tensions Rise Over Greenland
The United States wants to acquire Greenland, a region that belongs to Denmark, to prevent Russia or China from taking control.
The U.S. President, Donald Trump, has said that he would like to make a deal to acquire Greenland.
However, the Danish Prime Minister, Mette Frederiksen, has warned that an American takeover of Greenland would mark the end of NATO.
The Greenland Prime Minister, Jens-Frederik Nielsen, and other leaders in Greenland have also said that Greenland's future must be decided by its people.
China, which has declared itself a 'near-Arctic state', has said that the U.S. should not use other countries as a 'pretext' to pursue its interests in Greenland.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Mao Ning, has said that China's activities in the Arctic are aimed at promoting peace, stability, and sustainable development in the region.
The German Chancellor, Friedrich Merz, has said that he expects the United States to continue to protect Greenland together with Denmark.
