Rice exporters seek budget support for FY27
Rice exporters in India have asked the government for help in the upcoming budget.
They want a 4% interest subsidy on loans for exports, 3% support for transporting rice by road and rail, and faster payments under duty remission schemes.
These measures would make it cheaper and easier for them to export rice.
India is the world's largest rice exporter, sending rice to over 140 countries.
In the last financial year, India exported 19.86 million tonnes of rice worth $12.47 billion.
The exporters also want incentives for producing and marketing special kinds of rice and for making the rice supply chain more sustainable.
They believe these steps will help them compete better with other rice-exporting countries like Pakistan and Thailand.
Rice exporters requested 4% interest subsidy on export credit and 3% support for road and rail freight in the 2026-27 budget.
They also sought timely disbursal under duty remission schemes and incentives for high-value rice varieties.
India is the world's largest rice exporter, with a market share of 35% to 40% in rice trade.
In FY25, India exported 19.86 million tonnes of rice valued at $12.47 billion.
The exporters aim to reduce financing costs, ease cash flow, and improve price competitiveness.
