Rabies Alert In UP Village After Raita From Dog-Bitten Buffalo
In a village in Uttar Pradesh, India, people got scared because they ate a dish called raita made from the milk of a buffalo that was bitten by a dog.
The dog might have had rabies, which is a serious disease.
The buffalo died a few days later, and the villagers got worried.
So, almost 200 people went to the nearby health center to get a vaccine to protect themselves from rabies.
The doctor said that boiling milk usually kills the rabies germs, but they gave the vaccine just to be safe.
The health department is keeping an eye on the village to make sure no one gets sick and to stop any rumors.
Nearly 200 residents of Piprauli village in Uttar Pradesh received rabies vaccinations after consuming raita made from the milk of a buffalo bitten by a rabid dog.
The buffalo died on December 26, a few days after the funeral where the raita was served on December 23.
Villagers got vaccinated as a precautionary measure due to the fear of rabies infection.
The Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Rameshwar Mishra, advised vaccinations to prevent any potential risk, although boiling milk typically neutralizes rabies.
No cases of disease have been reported so far, and the village is being monitored to prevent the spread of panic or rumors.
