India Clears ₹1.10 Lakh Crore Defence Acquisition Proposals
India’s Defence Acquisition Council approved plans to buy and develop military equipment costing about ₹1.10 lakh crore.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh chaired the council.
About 98% of the planned purchases are expected to come from Indian companies.
The Army will receive vehicles, helicopters, mine-laying equipment and bridge systems.
Some vehicles will find and mark areas contaminated by dangerous chemical, biological, radiological or nuclear materials.
The Navy will receive new radars and work on gas turbines for warships.
The Air Force will receive equipment for fighters, transport aircraft and helicopters.
It will also receive systems that can interfere with enemy radars and smart access cards.
These approvals allow proposals to move forward but do not themselves create final purchase contracts.
The Defence Acquisition Council approved in-principle proposals worth about ₹1.10 lakh crore for India’s armed forces.
Approximately 98% of the planned procurements are expected to come from Indian industry.
Army approvals include CBRN reconnaissance vehicles, mobility vehicles, mine layers, helicopters, trawl tanks and the Sarvatra Bridge System.
Navy approvals cover Arudhra Radars and the domestic design, development and procurement of Marine Gas Turbines.
Air Force approvals include systems for aircraft and helicopters, ground-based jammers and RFID-based secure access cards.
