Telangana HC Orders FIR Against Man for Bribing Sub-Registrar
Imagine a man wanted to register some property papers.
He went to the person in charge, a sub-registrar, who asked for a lot of money, around 20 lakh rupees, to get the work done.
The man paid some of the money, even through an app.
Later, he realized he might have been tricked, so he tried to get his money back and then went to the police.
However, the police said it was a personal disagreement, not a crime.
The man took his complaint to a higher court, the Telangana High Court.
The High Court said the police were wrong to dismiss the case so easily.
The court ordered the police to file a criminal case against the man for paying the bribe, and also to seriously investigate the sub-registrar for asking for money.
The court wants to make sure no one is taking bribes for government work.
The Telangana High Court ordered the Saroornagar police to register an FIR against an individual for bribing a sub-registrar.
The court also directed an investigation into allegations of bribe-taking against sub-registrar Srilatha.
The sub-registrar allegedly demanded approximately ₹20 lakh for processing property documents.
The High Court criticized the police for closing the initial bribery complaint as a civil matter without proper verification.
The court ordered the stamps and registration department to investigate the allegations and take action against the sub-registrar.
