Ayushman Bharat: Payment Delays and Successes
A man named Ram Kumar went to the Punjab and Haryana High Court because the government is taking too long to pay hospitals that treat people under the Ayushman Bharat health scheme.
This scheme helps people get medical treatment without paying money upfront, up to ₹5 lakh per family every year.
The court has asked the government to explain why they are delaying payments and will hear the case again in January 2026.
Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh has been very successful in implementing the scheme.
They have made payments quickly, treated many serious illnesses, and solved most complaints.
The central government has recognized Uttar Pradesh for its excellent work.
Punjab and Haryana High Court issued notices to Union and State governments over delays in Ayushman Bharat payments.
Petitioner Ram Kumar highlighted persistent delays in reimbursing empanelled hospitals under the scheme.
Ayushman Bharat scheme provides cashless medical treatment up to ₹5 lakh per family per year.
Governments are supposed to reimburse hospitals within 15-30 days of claim submission.
