Golden Temple Illuminated for Guru Granth Sahib Anniversary

Golden Temple Illuminated for Guru Granth Sahib Anniversary

The Golden Temple in Amritsar was decorated with bright lights.

People gathered there to celebrate an important Sikh religious anniversary.

The event remembers when the Guru Granth Sahib was placed at the shrine in 1604.

Guru Arjan Dev compiled the sacred scripture and supervised its installation.

Sikhs regard the Guru Granth Sahib as their eternal spiritual guide.

It contains hymns and teachings that encourage devotion, equality, humility and compassion.

During the celebration, people prayed, sang kirtan and lit small lamps called diyas.

Some devotees also took a holy dip in the sacred pool.
