Mumbai's Elphinstone Bridge Reopening Delayed Until Early 2027

Mumbai’s old Elphinstone bridge was replaced after it was removed a year ago.

The new bridge is taking longer than expected to build.

The railway section may be finished by November.

However, the full bridge may not open to cars and other traffic until January or February 2027.

Workers still need to place four large steel sections over the railway tracks.

This work needs at least 39 planned pauses in train operations over 25 days.

Rain and the festival season could make some railway pauses shorter.

MahaRail says it will keep working even if that happens.

The bridge is part of a larger connector project linking Elphinstone, Sewri and Worli.
