Mohali Ward Delimitation Nears Final Stage
The city of Mohali in India is getting ready to decide the boundaries of its wards, which are like small areas in the city.
Even though the city has grown bigger, the number of wards is not expected to increase much.
Right now, there are 50 wards, and after the changes, there might be 50 to 52 wards.
The main reason for this is that the current city hall cannot fit more councillors, and they want each ward to have a fair number of people.
Political parties are preparing for the elections, and there are some farmers who are not happy about being included in the city's boundaries.
The final decisions will be made by December 31, after which the boundaries cannot be changed.
Mohali Municipal Corporation's ward count is unlikely to exceed 50-52 despite city expansion.
Voters in each ward will almost double to balance population distribution.
Infrastructure constraints, such as the existing city hall's capacity, are a major factor in the delimitation process.
Major political parties (AAP, BJP, Congress, Akali Dal) are preparing for the upcoming elections.
Farmers from newly added villages are challenging their inclusion in the MC, with a court hearing expected this week.
