Rahul Gandhi’s Punjab Bus Yatra Tests Congress Unity
Punjab’s Congress party has been arguing internally for several weeks.
Two important leaders, Charanjit Singh Channi and Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, belong to opposing groups.
The party wants to show voters that its leaders can work together.
Rahul Gandhi is expected to travel across Punjab on a bus with senior Congress leaders.
The trip may begin after a visit to the Golden Temple in Amritsar.
Its first planned section could run 135 kilometres toward Hussainiwala.
Supporters call the trip a unity effort before the 2027 elections.
Some party members doubt that sharing a bus will solve the deeper disagreement over leadership.
Punjab Congress has faced weeks of intensifying factional infighting ahead of the 2027 elections.
The dispute includes tensions between former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi and state chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring.
Bhupesh Baghel briefed Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi on plans for a statewide bus journey.
The proposed tour may begin at the Golden Temple and initially cover 135 kilometres toward Hussainiwala.
Party leaders hope the bus yatra will demonstrate unity, while skeptics question whether it addresses the leadership dispute.

Whether the bus journey can create unity
Party Optimists
The yatra can bring senior leaders together and convince voters, workers, and party members that the Punjab unit has moved past its differences.
Party Skeptics
The trip may be only a carefully choreographed public display and may not resolve the underlying factional conflict.
Addressing the leadership dispute
Party Optimists
A joint statewide tour could help Rahul Gandhi encourage the rival camps to work as a team before the elections.
Party Skeptics
The journey does not directly answer demands to remove Amrinder Singh Raja Warring as Punjab Congress president.
The party’s electoral position
Party Optimists
Demonstrating unity could help Congress challenge the Aam Aadmi Party in Punjab.
