NPS Reforms Enhance Retirement Security Options
The National Pension System (NPS) in India has recently been updated to make it more flexible and attractive.
Now, people can withdraw more of their pension money under certain conditions.
If someone has saved up to ₹8 lakh, they can take out all of it.
If they have more than ₹12 lakh, they can take out 80% and must keep 20% for a pension.
The waiting period to withdraw has also been reduced to 15 years or until the person turns 60, whichever comes first.
These changes, along with new investment options like gold and silver funds, aim to help people save better for retirement.
The NPS is designed to be a safe and disciplined way to save for the future, even though some people might prefer other investment options.
The goal is to ensure that people have enough money when they retire, which is becoming increasingly important as job security decreases and lifestyle expenses rise.
PFRDA has relaxed NPS withdrawal rules, allowing 100% withdrawal if corpus is ≤ ₹8 lakh and 80% if corpus is > ₹12 lakh.
The minimum lock-in period has been reduced to 15 years or until the subscriber turns 60, whichever is earlier.
NPS now offers more investment options, including gold and silver ETFs, and up to 100% equity exposure.
Subscribers can structure lump-sum withdrawals through a systematic withdrawal plan for regular monthly inflows.
NPS is promoted as a strong vehicle for retirement savings, offering low costs, tax deductions, and disciplined long-term investing.
