RBI Objects to Bain's Manappuram Deal
Bain Capital wants to buy a big part of Manappuram Finance, a company that gives loans using gold as security.
But India's central bank, the RBI, is saying no because Bain already controls another lending company called Tyger Capital.
The RBI doesn't like one investor controlling more than one lender.
Bain is trying to fix this by selling some of its Tyger Capital shares.
The deal is worth a lot of money, and it's making people worry about what will happen to Manappuram's shares.
Manappuram has subsidiaries like Asirvad Micro Finance and Manappuram Home Finance.
The existing promoters will still have a significant stake in the company after the deal.
RBI objects to Bain Capital's plan to acquire a controlling stake in Manappuram Finance due to existing control over Tyger Capital.
Bain aims to buy 18% of Manappuram initially, with an option to acquire an additional 26%.
The deal is valued at approximately 44 billion rupees ($488 million).
Bain is exploring a phased divestment in Tyger Capital to address RBI's concerns.
Manappuram's shares slid 5% following the news of RBI's objections.
