How Road Accident Compensation Works in India
When someone is hurt or killed in a car accident, money is given to help the victims or their families.
If the car that caused the accident is found, the family of the person who died gets at least 5 lakh rupees.
But, if the car leaves the scene and is not found, the most the family can get is 2 lakh rupees.
For injuries in hit-and-run cases, there is a maximum of 50,000 rupees.
The government has a special court, called the Motor Vehicle Accident Claims Tribunal, that handles these cases, and it decides how much money people should get.
Compensation in road accidents depends on whether the vehicle is identified.
If the vehicle is identified, the family of the deceased receives a minimum of Rs 5 lakh.
In hit-and-run cases where the vehicle is untraceable, the maximum compensation is Rs 2 lakh.
In hit-and-run cases, a maximum of Rs 50,000 is allotted for injuries.
The Motor Vehicle Accident Claims Tribunal manages compensation when the vehicle is identified and seized.
