Italy declares emergency after severe storms
Italy had really bad storms in the south.
The storms caused a lot of damage, like flooding streets, breaking things, and even causing landslides.
The government said it's an emergency and will give money to fix things.
In one town, Niscemi, a big piece of land slid away, and houses are now hanging over the edge.
More than 1,000 people had to leave their homes because of the storms, and even more had to leave because of the landslide.
The government wants to help people and businesses that were affected, but some people are upset because they say the government didn't do enough to stop the landslides before.
Italy declared a state of emergency in southern regions after severe storms caused over 1 billion euros in damage.
Initial aid of 100 million euros has been allocated for immediate needs and infrastructure restoration.
Sicily suffered around 740 million euros in damage, with estimates suggesting it could double.
Storms caused flooding, infrastructure damage, and the evacuation of around 1,000 people in Sicily, with additional 1,500 evacuated in Niscemi due to a landslide.
Sardinia and Calabria also experienced significant damage, affecting businesses and the rural economy, while Niscemi faces ongoing landslide risks.
