Govt. Launches Social Security Scheme for Construction Workers
The government is creating a social security plan for construction workers across India.
This plan uses over ₹70,000 crore of money that has been collected but not fully spent from construction projects.
The plan will provide pensions to workers when they retire at age 60, and the EPFO might manage the money.
If a worker passes away before 60, their family gets the money.
If they die after 60, their family gets the pension.
The government is stepping in because some states haven't used the funds as intended.
The government is developing a social security scheme for 5.73 crore construction workers.
The scheme will use over ₹70,000 crore of unspent welfare funds.
The plan aims to provide pensions upon retirement at 60 years of age.
The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) is being considered as the fund manager.
