CBSE Mandates Career Counsellor and Wellness Teacher in Schools
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has updated its rules to say that all schools must now have a full-time Career Counsellor and a Wellness Teacher.
Before, schools only needed a Wellness Teacher.
The new rules say that for every 500 students in classes 9 to 12, there should be one Career Counsellor and one Wellness Teacher.
The teachers need special training and qualifications to help students with their emotions and career choices.
Schools can also use a special model called the CBSE Counselling Hub and Spoke School Model to make these services even better.
CBSE now requires all affiliated schools to appoint both a full-time Career Counsellor and a Wellness Teacher.
One Counsellor and Wellness Teacher and one Career Counsellor must be appointed for every 500 students in Classes 9 to 12.
Qualifications for Wellness Teacher include degrees in Psychology or Social Work, or relevant diplomas.
Career Counsellors must have degrees in Humanities, Science, or related fields with career counselling competencies.
Appointed candidates must complete 50 hours of Capacity Building Programmes (CBPs) for psycho-social and career counselling.
