DU Struggles to Fill Undergrad Seats Again
Delhi University has had trouble filling all its undergraduate seats for the third year in a row.
Even after many extra rounds of admissions, over 7,000 seats were still empty in September.
The university's leader, Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh, says the new system using CUET is fair and transparent.
He also mentioned that this problem existed before CUET.
Some courses, especially language ones, have fewer students interested.
The university is now asking colleges to share data on which courses have empty seats.
They might move some seats to more popular courses to help fill them.
No courses will be closed, but they are looking at ways to make sure all seats are filled in the future.
Delhi University has failed to fill all its undergraduate seats for the third consecutive year since adopting CUET.
As of September, over 7,000 seats out of 71,624 remained vacant despite multiple mop-up rounds.
Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh defended the centralised admissions system, stating it is more logical, transparent, and accountable.
Vacancies persist due to students not filling preferences strategically and declining interest in certain courses, particularly language programs.
The university is analyzing course-wise vacancies and may reallocate seats from low-demand programs to more popular ones to accommodate more students.
