Blackstone Fund Cuts Medallia Loan Value, Signaling Stress
Imagine a company called Medallia that makes software.
Some big investment companies gave Medallia a loan.
However, because Medallia hasn't been doing as well as expected, these companies are now saying the loan isn't worth as much as they first thought.
One company, Blackstone, cut the loan's value, meaning it's now worth less than the original amount.
Other lenders like KKR and Onex have done the same.
This is like if you lent a friend money, but now you think they might not be able to pay you back, so the money isn't worth as much anymore.
Blackstone fund cut the value of its loan to Medallia, a software company.
The loan is now valued at around 87 cents on the dollar, down from 94 cents.
Other lenders, including KKR and Onex, have also marked down their debt.
Medallia provides software for customer and employee satisfaction surveys.
The loan was part of a $1.8 billion debt package led by Blackstone in 2021.
